“I work with enamel and metal, either silver, gold or copper. This has been constant throughout my entire career. As I am not tied to a particular enameling technique or process, I have explored the different ways of working with enamel. The most important thing for me is that the process I use doesn’t stifle the visual impact of the work.
The haptic and physical quality of the enameled drawing and its surface results from the fact that I try to bring out the inherent qualities of the enamel. At the same time as the enamel, I work with overglaze, which also offers different color and painting properties than enamel. This gives me the opportunity to create visual layers in the work. I apply the material with a brush, pencil, stick or paper towel, using anything that produces the expression I am looking for. Enamel and overglaze are fired onto the metal surface layer by layer in several firings in the enamel kiln.
My work is about both the need for accuracy and the intention to express myself. I choose the tools, materials and the way of working so that they fit the idea for the piece of jewellery. For me, being a (jewellery) maker means that I have trained my hands and focused my thoughts on giving shape to materials in order to show/reveal both a creative expression and a commitment/confession to tradition in a piece of jewellery.”
